Before coming to Golden Gate, Dr. Timothy Wiarda taught New Testament and Theology for fifteen years at Singapore Bible College. He also served a number of years with Arab World Ministries, working first as a tentmaker in Algeria, then as pastor of a church for international workers in Oman.
One of Dr. Wiarda's areas of special interest is the study of the Gospels, particularly their portrayal of individual characters. In 2010, Dr. Wiarda wrote Interpeting Gospel Narratives. The 245-page volume, published by B&H Academic, discusses principles for literary interpretation of Scripture. He has also published a number of articles about this topic as well as a monograph on the Gospels' depiction of Peter.
Dr. Wiarda enjoys helping students make connections between their academic study of the New Testament and issues they face as pastors and missionaries. He wants them to see that practical ministry and deep grounding in the Word go hand in hand.
Dr. Wiarda's wife Gracia is a marriage and family therapist. They have two children. In their spare time, they enjoy reading, hiking, and traveling. |
