Southern California Campus

Southern California, home to some of the largest churches in America, a distinct California/Hollywood culture and birthplace of the "Jesus Movement," is the setting for Golden Gate's two-acre Southern California Campus (SCC) located in Brea. Situated conveniently off the 57 Freeway near the 60 and the 91, SCC is surrounded by mountains, beaches, deserts, and millions of people.

Southern California is home to diverse cultures and people groups. Presently more than 100 nationalities and more than 40 languages are found among the residents of the L.A. Basin. There is no better setting to study the urban world, people groups, and what it will take to reach both. With nearly 1,000 Southern Baptist churches and missions, numerous ministry opportunities are available for students. Southern California offers students the opportunity to study and learn from a number of successful urban churches from both Southern Baptist and non-Baptist models.

The curriculum offered at SCC is identical to that at the Northern California Campus for the Master of Divinity (MDiv), Master of Arts in Educational Leadership (MAEL), Master of Theological Studies (MTS), and Master of Arts in Intercultural Studies (MAIS) degrees, as well as the Diploma in Theology and Diploma in Educational Leadership. Classes are offered over a wide variety of theological disciplines and made available primarily on Tuesday & Thursday nights and weekends, utlizing online components and often "block" or "intensive" formats. This unique scheduling approach recognizes the commuter culture that is Southern California. SCC also has an extension site at Saddleback Church, which is approved to offer up to one-half of the MTS program and, thus, a significant portion of the MDiv. SCC also has the flexibility to partner with local churches to tailor the seminary experience toward a specific ministry outcome.

The Southern California Campus now offers a housing option for students. In partnership with Hope International University in Fullerton, GGBTS students - both singles and married couples - may obtain housing and campus services only 10 minutes away from our Brea, California, campus. The price is reasonable and includes room, meals, fitness center, swimming pool, parking, and other amenities. Contact Christina Armenta at 714-256-1311, ext 110, for more information. Library

The Frank and Jane Pollard Library was named after the fifth President of Golden Gate Seminary. Before coming to the seminary, Dr. Pollard served as the pastor of First Baptist Churches in both Jackson, Mississippi, and San Antonio, Texas. During his tenure, Golden Gate experienced the largest enrollment gain in its history.

The library houses approximately 16,500 book volumes, journal titles, a multimedia collection, and provides computer research and wireless technology. Fully staffed by Harvey Martindill and part-time circulation help, the library is open to help students, faculty, and staff. The SCC Library is a member of SCATLA, an association of 38 local theological libraries. Through this membership, students have access to millions of books that GGBTS libraries may not own. In addition, the SCC Library has a cooperative agreement with California Baptist University, which furthers the available resources for library users.
